I Used to Know Who I Was Designing For.

“How AI is changing what designers do – and what that means for everyone who verifies quality.

For twenty years – since screens became the primary surface of digital products – design answered one question: what should this screen look like?

AI just made that question insufficient.

The user is no longer always a person. The deliverable is no longer always a screen. And done is no longer a moment – it’s a quality bar that has to be maintained continuously, long after the Figma file is closed and the ticket is shut.

Who is actually using this? Humans, agents, voice interfaces, embedded systems – each one encounters the same design decision completely differently. Design now has to account for users it cannot interview, observe, or watch struggle.

What am I actually designing? Prompts. Guardrails. Tone of voice rubrics for AI-generated responses. Rules that generate the experience rather than being the experience. None of it lives in Figma. All of it shapes what the user encounters.

What does done even mean? When the AI output changes every session, when the model drifts silently between month one and month three, when quality isn’t a state you ship to but a bar you maintain – the old definition of done stops working. And most teams don’t have a new one yet.

This isn’t a talk about AI tools for designers. It’s a window into how design thinking is changing at the foundation – and what that means for the people whose job it is to verify that what was designed actually works.”

Designing for AI
Return to quality: Radical and practical QA career transformation

The modern QA professional is at a crossroads: trapped in a cycle of high-toil automation and task-oriented testing while the “Great Automation” of AI looms. This session is a call to Return to Quality, a radical shift that reclaims engineering excellence. This session will inspire and instruct QA professionals to reinvent themselves as true quality professionals and not just testers or automators. Attendees will leave with a usable guide to changing their mindset, a rigorous Skill Rubric for self-evaluation, Goal-Setting Templates, and the “Accountability Rituals” necessary to ensure this transformation is not a momentary inspiration, but a permanent professional evolution.

Career
The almost right machine: How to test, trust, and ship software built with AI

“Software development has quietly crossed a line. The hard part is no longer always writing the first version of code. Code, test cases, product flows, documentation, and prototypes can now be generated at remarkable speed. That is progress. But it creates a new quality problem: software that does not look broken. It compiles, runs, passes the demo, clears basic checks, and still may be wrong. Not completely wrong, but almost right. It may misunderstand business intent, miss the real context, ignore a constraint, or fail only when the consequence is high. This session is about quality engineering when software is created at AI speed, and why traditional pass/fail thinking is no longer enough.

What the session will cover

  • Why faster software creation changes the meaning of quality
  • Why the biggest risk is not always broken software, but almost-right software
  • How AI-generated code, tests, flows, and documentation change the review and testing mindset
  • Why QAs, engineers, PMs, and AI teams need to move beyond binary asserts
  • A simple quality lens: Correctness, Context, Constraints, Confidence, and Consequence
  • How this lens helps teams validate intent, assumptions, and risk before software reaches production”
Testing the AI
Scaling Without Breaking: Rethinking Quality in AI-Driven Startups
Scaling a startup brings real concerns with it – business needs speed to grow, while engineering needs process and automation to sustain that growth. In most cases, teams end up choosing one over the other: either moving fast and building up quality debt, or slowing down with heavy processes that don’t scale. In fast-scaling, AI-driven startups, this becomes even more pronounced. Rapid releases, changing architectures, and growing teams quickly make traditional QA approaches ineffective. This talk is about what it actually takes to build and scale a quality function from scratch in that kind of environment, moving away from QA as a separate phase to quality as a shared responsibility. Based on my experience of setting this up in a startup, I’ll talk through the challenges of getting the basics right early on, and how those practices need to evolve as the system and teams grow – without becoming a bottleneck. AI is definitely changing how we build and test software – faster feedback, better automation, smarter tooling. But the bigger shift I’ve seen is cultural: moving from siloed QA teams to shared ownership, where quality is continuous and part of everyday engineering decisions. The focus of the session is practical, how to balance speed with discipline, where process actually helps (and where it doesn’t), and how to use automation and AI in a way that supports scale instead of getting in the way.
Scaling with AI
Ideas to Impact: 22 Patents, Agentic AI, and the Next Decade of Quality Engineering

Looking forward to sharing a few reflections from my innovation journey across 22 patents in the QE space. Working on patents has been a learning experience filled with curiosity, collaboration, experimentation, and many valuable lessons along the way. More than the outcomes themselves, the journey has reinforced the importance of continuous learning, problem solving, resilience, and being open to new perspectives.
Hoping the session encourages others to see that innovation does not always begin with breakthrough ideas — often, it starts with simply observing and solving day-to-day challenges while keeping up with the best technology has to offer. I’ll cover the use of AI and agentic frameworks to improve SDLC quality, as well as how we evaluate AI algorithms as they become part of the build-test-ship loop.

A big thank you to life.
I am happy to share that I had such an ecstatic experience of The Test Tribe community hosting this beautiful TribeQonf 2- days conference in Bangalore.

As an entry level tester, I was really grateful for being a part of this community who welcomed each and every mind and gave them a place to be heard for.

It was lovely meeting and connecting to all the different testers and listening to their perspective and stories.

A lot of love for The Test Tribe.
Be kind.

After attending the sessions at Tribe Qonf, one thought kept echoing in my mind:
“தெரிந்தது கை அளவு, தெரியாதது உலகளவு”
(What we know is just a handful; what we don’t is as vast as the universe.)

This wasn’t just a conference — it was a realization. I walked in thinking I’d just refresh my current knowledge, but instead, I discovered how much more there is to explore in the world of testing and quality.

From deep-dive sessions to thought-provoking conversations, every moment was a learning spark. It reminded me to stay grounded, stay curious, and keep exploring.

Grateful to be part of such a vibrant community that encourages learning and sharing.

This is just the beginning. 💡

I just spent 2 days with people whose literal job is to break things.
And now my brain won’t stop trying to break every software I touch. (Unsuccessfully)

Here’s what I learned about QA professionals:
They think like your most chaotic users.
They ask the questions nobody else thinks to ask.
They genuinely care about making software that makes everyone happy.

And to everyone who’s asking, “Will AI replace QAs?”
Well…I watched a QA look at a simple “upload photo” button and immediately ask:
“What happens if someone tries to upload their entire wedding album as one giant file while their Wi-Fi is cutting out?”

NOW show me an AI that can think like that.

That beautiful, paranoid, “what could possibly go wrong” mindset?
That’s what saves us all from 3 AM production disasters.

QA community, you’re absolutely incredible. Thanks for letting the new kid sit at your lunch table. And I look forward to serving you more.

Let’s meet again soon!

Once again, thanks very much Ashutosh Garg & the entire The Test Tribe team for gifting some amazing memories.

Two insightful days that critically eliminated the fear that most testers have — that AI is going to replace them. AI is just an assistant. You are the strategist.
